Since returning to school after midterm, 1st Class have been learning all about boats. We started off by making a list of all of the different types of boats that we could think of. We then learned all about a very famous boat, the Titanic. We wrote fact files about the Titanic and followed a step by step tutorial to draw the accompanying pictures on our fact files. Finally we finished the fortnight by discussing why boats float (or sink in the case of the Titanic)! We learned about density and then we tested out our engineering skills by making boats out of tinfoil. We tested to see would our boats float before adding weight (cubes) to the boats.
Unfortunately some boats sank but the redesign process swiftly followed. Lots of fun was had and there are definitely some future engineers in 1st Class!
